About us

Our mission

A Pacific Northwest with widespread land based systems that simultaneously increase production, restoration, and protection of ecological function, and restore human connection to place.

Agroforestry Northwest connects professionals and land stewards to advance agroforestry and biocultural restoration, fostering human connection to the land and promoting systems that enhance ecological health, biodiversity, and resilient production in the Pacific Northwest.

Our values

Connection

A deep reciprocal relationship between humans and the natural world is essential for the well-being of both. We are dedicated to fostering meaningful connections between humans and place as the foundation for ecological stewardship, human health, and community resilience

Economic Viability

We acknowledge that long-term ecological stewardship depends of economic opportunity for Pacific Northwest land stewards and that economies can take several different forms. We promote agroforestry and biocultural systems that provide diversified income streams and access to diversified markets while improving livelihoods.

Ecological Sustainability

The health and resilience of our region’s ecosystems are a priority within agroforestry design and management. Agroforestry practices that we promote increase and protect biodiversity, increase soil health, protect water resources, and build resilience into working lands.

Community Empowerment

We believe in the power of Pacific Northwest communities to drive necessary change. We believe in the power of the diversity of our region and promote the inclusion of people in all their multiplicity. We work in partnership to empower local peoples to make decisions about local lands and local livelihoods.

Knowledge Sharing and Innovation

We acknowledge different ways of knowing the land and local ecological systems. Knowledge sharing, research, education, storytelling, and the arts promote awareness, engagement, and inspiration related to agroforestry approaches in our region. Innovative response to new scientific data, traditional ecological knowledge, and changing social dynamics allows agroforestry to be responsive and an effective solution to regional challenges.

Meet the team

Connections between people and the land is what matters most to us. We are fortunate to actively work towards improving these connections through biocultural restoration and agroforestry. We believe in multifunctional land uses fostering ecological resilience, climate resilience, economic prosperity, and thriving communities.
