First Annual Art Show

We are calling for artists who work with the land to be part of our first art show to display works centered around the theme of "Connections with the Land".

Do you work with the land – as a farmer, forester, scientist, or resource professional – and harbor a hidden creative side? Perhaps you're a painter, writer, musician, or storyteller? Agroforestry Northwest's new Creative Ecology initiative is bridging the gap between art and ecology, exploring how creativity can revolutionize land use and conservation. We've discovered a wealth of artistic talent within our community – farmers who weave and paint, foresters who sculpt and write poetry, scientists who express themselves through diverse art forms. If this sounds like you - join us in forging new paths to inspire innovation and change.

We are calling to action artists, musicians, storytellers, poets, sculptors, photographers and more to create works around the theme of connection with the land – how we nurture the land and how it nurture us in return.

We will host a creative ecology event around our theme at Raising Cane Ranch on September 19th in a living art structure of trees. Visual arts will be curated among the trees of the living art structure, and we will have an open mic for poetry, short stories, and songs. We invite all artists to attend the event and talk about their works with the public.

Who: Anyone working with the land who is also an artist

Theme: Connections With The Land

Mediums: Any and all art mediums and styles are welcome

When: September 19th, 2025 3:00PM - 6:00PM

Where: Raising Cane Ranch 5719 Riverview Rd, Snohomish, WA 98290

How to participate: Email Carrie Brausieck or Jared Busen with what you would like to display/present/read to the audience by September 5th, 2025. We want to have a dialogue to ensure what can accommodate whatever artistic representation you prefer.

Questions (this will be updated as needed):

Will all items be exposed to the elements?  This event is scheduled to be outside, in the event of rain or inclement weather we have a large barn nearby and the show will take place inside. The barn is used to host other events so it has power, water and will keep anything safe from the weather.

Will there be indoor displays?  If a piece or artist specifically wants/needs to be inside, it can be in the barn that is part of this event.

If there are smaller items will there be staff watching for potential theft? We don’t have security, but there will be volunteers and staff present while the event is going on. This is taking place at Raising Cane Ranch, which is outside of Snohomish. There won’t be random people walking in off the street. Not that there can’t be thieves in any group, but the audience will be invited by us, or the artists, or customers at Raising Cane that happen to be there. If the need for something more arises, we can revisit this.

Does the artist need to be present?  No, but they are welcomed and encouraged to communicate with the public.

When should the art be delivered?  September 18th, but accommodations can be made if something different is needed.

Can they stake into the ground for sculptures, etc? Yes, they can stake in the ground, we’ll have items hanging from trees, a mic for music or spoken word. We can work with whatever the artist needs.

How large of an audience are you expecting? We are expecting 50-150 people. But we do not have a clear number at this point.

What is included in the "submission" that is due Sept 5th?  Just email with Carrie Brausieck (carrie@agroforestrynw.com) or Jared Busen (jared@agroforestrynw.com), discussing your intent to display a piece, what that piece/medium will most likely look like. We want to make sure we have accommodations for any type of art.

Will Agroforestry NW provide the signage with maker, title, details, etc? No, the artist needs to provide these. To ensure accuracy of the information and that it is displayed as the artists wishes.

When should it be delivered and picked up? We have several options for transportation to the art show. You can deliver it directly to the shows location at Raising Cane Ranch. We may be able to pick the piece up from you, we can meet somewhere… Work with Carrie or Jared for what will work best for you.
